hmmm Great selection, but something i dont understand?

Why do a dvd rip and compress to 700mb? Other than the obvious to fit on cd and save upload time. I dont know why but it agrivates me when i dl a movie and its compressed to high hell and it cannot be reburned to dvd for proper undistorted viewing on my tv.

This being said after I finish ripping my dvds (300 or so) I think ill set up an ftp to it is this allowed here?
