Half-Life 2 is a technically amazing, sharply honed first-person shooter that pulls all the tricks that made Half-Life such a beloved experience. In Half-Life 2, you once again assume the role of Gordon Freeman, the theoretical physicist and dimension-hopping commando who saved the world from an alien invasion at the end of Half-Life. Or did he?
Rise and shine, Mr Freeman…rise and shine. Not that I wish to imply that you have been sleeping on the job…no one is more deserving of a rest. And all the effort in the world would have gone to waste but until…well let's just say your hour has come again. So wake up Mr Freeman, wake up and smell the ashes.
The next thing Gordon knows, he's on a train coming to a stop in "City 17". Valve has confirmed that the game will take place in this run-down Eastern-European city and the surrounding area. Unfortunately for our sleeping hero, the human race has since become enslaved by an alien force known as the "Combine". They exercise an oppressive regime, keeping the citizens of City 17 closely guarded with troops, gunships and towering tripod machines.
