The film is based on reincarnation and is initially set in the 70s.

Om Prakash Makhija (Shah Rukh Khan), a junior artiste in the film industry, falls madly in love with top actress of the era Shantipriya (Deepika Padukon). Om is ready to give up all his dreams for his love. Similarly, Shantipriya is ready to give up all that she had acquired for her love. However, Om is murdered leaving Shantipriya betrayed in love.

When Om is reborn as Om Kapoor he is haunted by the memories of his previous life. He discovers the truth about his death and love who is still alive thought much older than him. He decides to meet her…
